I have a uni there. I study in Melbourne University and took a walk to Young Street, Fitzroy from the uni. It took about half an hour. And from the apartment to uni, it would take about 20 minutes of very fast brisk walking. In addition, the way to the CBD/city, where Swanston Street intersects with La Trobe street, it takes far longer than that. At a walking pace, it would take about an hour's walk. Furthermore, it is very far from Victoria Market(a must stop for cheap groceries). Most students do not have the luxury of cars. Also, travelling by train, bus and tram everyday is very expensive. I am not very happy with this. So take the heading "everything at your doorstep" with a pinch of salt.
