		<description>Your article reminds me of reading something on line recently about &quot;layaway&quot; shopping catching one again. When I was a kid about a million years ago that was how my folks did it.

Now I am retired, sort of, in Panama. Lay away never left this culture. My, Latina, wife chafes at the idea of paying everything all at once. She also is offended when she sees a dress that she thinks is too expensive, remembering a lot of years of hardships and those who still have trouble making ends meet.

My parents were married on the eve of the Great Depression and carried lessons learned with them for the rest of their lives. It seemed to me that their &quot;lists&quot; were internalized and very effective.
