4 Reasons to Make your Property “Green”

The “green” movement has taken over many aspects of modern life, including the real estate sector as well.  Making your home eco-friendly or even building a new home to meet with these standards is important in the age where bigger cars are the standard and saving the environment seems a tired old cause that Al Gore attempted to bring back to life.  Turning green is not the hippie-sponsored transition it once was and has many substantial facts, including preventing the waste of renewable resources.  Turning your home into an eco-friendly environment is not difficult and can actually aid you in many other ways.

Increase the value
Transforming your home to become green can cause it to go up in value as a result of the sustainable building materials that are used to build it. As a result of these materials, many standard utility bills will be lower in price, thereby reducing many unneeded costs for potential home-buyers. There are not too many homes on the market that feature solar panels or water-saving devices, and this can attract a slew of new buyers. Selling a house in this type of housing market is a difficult endeavor to undertake, and anything you can do to make your house that much more desirable is something you should consider if you need to sell within the next few years.

Energy savings
Green houses can save you money through various different methods because of the amount of money you can save by converting to a more energy efficient mode of air conditioning.  The U.S. Department of Energy has conducted studies that indicate the country would save $20 billion dollars if all buildings were green-improved.  Translating this into singular individual terms still reveals mass savings by updating to energy efficient models. Additionally, simply tightening the insulation in your house can help prevent the flow of excess energy out of the house; this is a cost-efficient update which saves you even more money in the end.

Water savings
Updating your many household appliances to those that are more water-efficient can also help you save money in the end.  Most toilets that were created before 1980 waste many more gallons of water than do modern toilets: at least 5 gallons per flush.  Simply updating your toilet system can save money in that respect, and it’s almost the same scenario for older showers.  Additionally, updating your sprinkler system can result in a system that is highly effective in both watering your lawn without overwatering, thereby leading to a weed-free yard.

Improve your quality of life
The air quality in many green homes is better than the alternative because of the lack of added chemicals; breathing in quality air can turn around your mode of life and health through the increase of clean air.
Additionally, studies have indicated that this rush of “fresh” air into your life can help with increased concentration and does not hinder any efforts at feeling better after an illness, like newer “non-green” homes can do. Transforming your house in this way benefits the entire environment in your area and can lead to changes in other realms of your life, which is why so many eco-friendly people have a healthy diet and seem to have a better strengthened immune system.

I am looking to buy property at the minute as I want some buy to let investment, as my pension is really working, and I am surprised when I walk into a lot of the houses, I thought people were more conscious of being green now but people leave taps dripping and as you mentioned really old bathroom suites. I have bought a property now and before I can rent it out I am going to have to have a complete overhaul to make it more green.

good advice. Going green is not only good for the environment but good for your pocket too. I think one day the government will bring in legislation that states that every new house must be built eco friendly :)
